LATEST NEWS
The raffle tickets for the Whakatane Great Outdoors raffle will be making their way to your homes. We have a much reduced timeframe for selling these this year. Once you get them, please try for a very quick turn around. We need to sell enough tickets to at least cover the cost of printing the tickets and the prizes for second and third places. The prize package is fantastic – so please all give it your best to sell all your allocated tickets – this is our major fundraiser for the year.
WHAKATANE GREAT OUTDOORS becomes cornerstone sponsor for Kingsley Keas, Cubs and Scouts
Whakatane Great Outdoors has partnered with Kingsley Keas, Cubs and Scouts to ensure the financial stability of the group is maintained. Brent Smith, owner of Whakatane Great Outdoors stated that it was important to see the future leaders of the town to be nurtured. The Scouting Movement encourages boys and girls to experience the great outdoors and learn about teamwork, co-operation and leadership. The investment we are making with Kingsley is part of our focus to assist youth and community. Whakatane Great Outdoors have made a sizeable commitment to ensure the shortfall in operational costs are met. This translates to fees being able to be kept at a modest level. It will also enable the committee, leaders, Keas, Cubs and Scouts to focus on a few major fundraising activities rather than having to fundraise on a regular basis. This allows more time for learning activities, badge work and community engagement.COMMITTEE MEETINGS
The committee meeting, to which all leaders, parents and caregivers are welcome is held on the second Thursday of each month. The next committee meeting will be held at the Den, James Street on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 24, after the AGM (if required). See Leaders/Committee page for location details. Meetings usually take one hour. If you are willing to offer assistance with a small project, want to become a leader or a committee member, or just interested in what happens behind the scenes or have your say, you are welcome to attend any committee meeting. All are welcome. We have small projects that you can assist with without becoming part of the committee. Your investment is an investment in your son or daughter. Click to view the agenda for the next meeting.
General information
Scouting New Zealand is run at a local level by volunteers who are generally parents or grandparents of the children, or ex-scout members who have first hand experience of the benefits of scouting and want to help others to have the same experiences.
The Kingsley Scout Group is run by a dedicated committee of volunteers and each section (Keas, Cubs and Scouts) is run by warranted leaders and a selection of parent helpers (Ratio of 1 adult to 6 children). Committee meetings are held monthly and are open to everyone.
Fees are set at a minimum amount to ensure scouting is open to all, whilst ensuring we stay afloat. In addition to an annual fee and term fee, we ask each group to participate in fundraising activities which raise additional and much needed funds for activity costs such as camps.
