SCOUTS
Fun and Adventure for boys and girls
aged 10½-14 years

Jamboree is over and those fortunate Scouts who went will keep plenty of memories, but can try to forget all the sausage sizzles last year..... a much quieter year for fundraising in 2011 (Yay!).

There will be new Scout uniforms revealed this year, with a 2-year phase-in period, and a return to sewing badges on the uniforms to best demonstrate personal achievement.

We are following the National Programme and starting the second week of school term on Wednesday 9th February, at the usual time of 6-8 pm.

This term the theme is "Up and Go" and we will be getting out and about to make best use of the warm weather. As such, the camp will be early this term and held at Lake Tarawera from Friday afternoon 18-19th February. We will pull out the Scout kayaks and tyre tubes, and drift down the Tarawera river, which will be heaps of fun. We would appreciate any spare inner tubes this term please. For safety reasons, people doing the kayaking and tubing should be able to swim 50 metres without a life jacket. The Scouts will be able to demonstrate this at Lake Tarawera if necessary.

DiveWorks has offered a very cheap introduction to Scuba diving, though the exact date/cost and requirement for wetsuits will be confirmed.

As usual, Scout fees (incl. insurance fees) must be paid prior to going on camps or other activities with any risk. There are also exciting activities held offsite on the weeknights so please sign and return the form at the bottom of your newsletter.

Parents are always welcome to stay at the Scout meetings and take part in the activities. We invite you all for the last week of term where the Scouts will do their best to entertain.
